STUDIO 307
Carlie has over 20 years experience teaching private music lessons to students of all ages. They have developed a student centered pedagogy, through which they seek to help students find their own relationship with music, and their own intrinsic motivation. Carlie strives to provide each student with what they need to set and meet their own musical goals, learn songs they are excited by, and to study music on their own terms.

The Lullaby Project
Through Massey Hall’s Education and Outreach programming, Carlie has had the honor of mentoring many young parents in composing songs for their babies. While these songs are framed as “lullabies” they take many musical forms, inspired by the musical tastes and backgrounds of the participants.
Once the song has been co-composed, Carlie and these parents work together with other musicians to produce professional recordings of their lullabies.

The Intersections Project
The Intersections Project received Ontario Arts Council funding to work with Newcomer Women who were learning English as an additional language. The women learned traditional Brazilian drumming, photography, and together with Carlie they composed a group song about their experiences arriving in Canada. Together with the Intersections team, Carlie then co-produced a recording of their song, including conducting the women and some of their children singing, together with community and professional musicians..

Carlie’s Angels
In collaboration with their student community in Toronto, Carlie created Carlie’s Angels, a femme-forward summer rock band camp where students played multiple instruments, learned cover tunes, arranged each others original music, and co-composed together. Different summers saw campers record in a professional studio setting, make a home recording, produce a documentary of their process, and a music video of their original song.
